Boostability and Manta content needs to be scrubbed for passive voice and readability, along with anything else that stands out (long sentences, transition words, etc.).

Login to WordPress: http://training.bkacontent.com/wp-admin

  • Username: bkawriter
  • Password: 2reads1submit
      • Click on “Posts” on top left corner
      • Click the “Add New” button***
        • In the title box, enter your name (as the editor) and paste the article title (ex: Calah – Don’t Let Your Marketing Strategy…)
        • Paste in the entire article to the body box (don’t worry about the extra spaces that will show up between paragraphs).
        • Click “Save Draft” on the right hand side
      • Scroll to below the content body to see the “Yoast SEO” plugin
      • Click on the “Readability Analysis” dropdown to expand and see potential issues. Issues will show as red (problems) or orange (improvements). Focus on fixing the unacceptable issues. You can select the “eye” icon to the right of the line items which should highlight the errors in the article. It seems to take a long time (15 or more minutes) before it starts working, so you can use the Hemingway App to help with passive voice and hard to read sentences, etc. if the highlighting is not showing.
  • Requirements:
    • Flesch-Kincaid readability score of at least 50. 55 is preferred.
    • Passive Voice at or below 10%. If this is above 10%, please pop the article into the Hemingway app to see if there is any passive voice highlighted. If there is, please fix it and be sure to note it in the feedback to the writer. If none is highlighted here, you are likely dealing with long sentences that are passive, so do your best as you edit for spelling/grammar to watch for  that.
    • Fix any other “Red” errors in the readability analysis.
      • Reading ease. As noted, 55 is preferred, but anything above 50 is acceptable.
      • Passive Voice – keep to 10% or under.
      • Consecutive sentences – don’t start consecutive sentences with the same word.
      • Subheading distribution – make sure the title is in H1 and subheadings in H2 format. You can use the paragraph dropdown at the top of your content to make changes as needed.
      • Sentence length – Keep most sentences on the 20 words or fewer side.
      • Paragraph length – Keep most paragraphs in the under 150 word range.
      • Transition words – Words like “and, but, so” and “because” are necessary to show relationships between phrases and paragraphs.
    • Spelling and Grammar check
      • Please edit for spelling and grammar.
        • Reminder – you have to press “Save Draft” after any changes you make to the text in order for the Yoast SEO plugin to adjust its score.
      • Once the article is up to snuff – copy the edited content and put it back in a word doc to send to edit box/writer/Kristin with feedback.
        • We will not be giving QC scores for now, but we want you to give feedback on the spelling/grammar and any passive voice issues. If the writer has lots of hard-to-read sentences, you can also mention that.

***After creating your first post, you can click on “All Posts” to find the one you most recently worked on. You will update the title and content with the next article you are editing, and click Save Draft. This will prevent millions of drafts being saved. ***

Here is a video to walk you through it: Editor Word Press-Yoast

*When you have an especially long blog (1,200+ words), subheading distribution may be dinged on Yoast – this is ok and does not need to be rearranged to fit additional subheadings in.
